Cooler Master HAF II 500: A Full Spec Breakdown of the New Flagship Airflow Case
Cooler Master’s HAF II 500 launched July 13, 2026, with North American retail availability starting July 23. Rather than chasing cooling performance through sheer fan count, the case is built around a much smaller number of unusually large fans — a bet that bigger, slower-spinning fans can out-cool a case full of smaller ones while running quieter.
The full specification sheet reveals exactly how deliberate that engineering choice is, down to the millimeter.
The airflow philosophy behind the design
Cooler Master’s stated goal for the HAF II 500 is lower component temperatures without a corresponding increase in system noise — essentially trying to break the usual tradeoff where more airflow means more fan noise. The mechanism is a more balanced intake-to-exhaust ratio than most airflow cases use, paired with large, low-resistance ventilation openings at the front and rear that let air move through the chassis with minimal obstruction from the case itself.
That’s a meaningfully different approach than simply adding more fans. A case with six small fans working harder to hit a target CFM number will generally run louder than a case with two or three oversized fans moving the same volume of air at a fraction of the RPM — which is the entire premise this chassis is built around.
Mighty40 fan specifications
The two front intake fans are Mighty40 F220 units, each measuring 220 x 220 x 40mm and weighing 500g. Running on a 12V DC rated voltage and drawing up to 0.5A, each fan spins between 200 and 1,050 RPM and is rated for up to 203.8 CFM of maximum airflow at 3.1 mmH2O of static pressure — all while staying at 36 dB(A) of maximum noise measured at one meter.
The single rear exhaust fan, the Mighty40 V180, measures 180 x 180 x 40mm and weighs 425g. It draws up to 0.3A, spins across a wider 250 to 1,370 RPM range, and is rated for 161.5 CFM at 4.0 mmH2O — slightly quieter at 34 dB(A) maximum.
Both fan models use PBT frames with liquid crystal polymer (LCP) blades and dual ball bearings, and both carry a 5-year fan warranty — separate from the case’s own 2-year warranty.
Chassis dimensions and materials
The HAF II 500 measures 557 x 262 x 548mm (L x W x H) including protrusions, working out to an internal volume of 79.98 liters — genuinely large for a case still classified as a mid-tower. The 262mm width is the dimension most likely to catch builders off guard, since it’s noticeably wider than a typical mid-tower specifically to accommodate the 220mm front fans.
Build quality comes from SGCC steel for the main chassis, at 0.7 to 0.8mm thickness, with ABS used for the front and top panels. The left side panel is tempered glass, while the right panel is SGCC steel — a fairly standard split for a case in this category, prioritizing a clear view of the build on one side and structural rigidity on the other.
Clearance specs that actually matter
A handful of clearance numbers determine whether specific hardware will actually fit, and the HAF II 500’s numbers are generous across the board:
- CPU cooler height: 221mm for Intel platforms, 220mm for AMD — enough for nearly any air cooler on the market
- Cable routing depth: 15 to 40mm, depending on the routing zone
- Power supply length: 150mm in a north-south drive orientation, or up to 210mm oriented east-west
- Graphics card length: up to 430mm with the front Mighty40 F220 fans installed
That last figure is worth pausing on — 430mm of GPU length clearance while the case’s own intake fans remain fully installed is a genuinely uncommon combination. Many high-airflow cases force a choice between maximum fan size and maximum GPU length; this one is specifically engineered to avoid that compromise.
Drive bays, expansion slots, and dust filtration
Storage capacity scales with power supply length. With a PSU of 150mm or shorter, the case supports 3 x 3.5” drives and 6 x 2.5” drives. With a longer PSU (up to 210mm), that drops to 2 x 3.5” and 4 x 2.5” drives, since the extended power supply occupies space that would otherwise house additional drive cages. Out of the box, the case ships pre-installed with 3 x 3.5” and 6 x 2.5” drive bays.
Eight expansion slots are available — enough for the multi-GPU configurations this case is clearly built to support — and dust filtration covers the top, front, and bottom (PSU intake) of the chassis.
MasterRail and the sliding cable cover
The MasterRail system is Cooler Master’s adjustable mounting platform, combining sliding rails with a standardized mounting pattern that accommodates multiple fan and radiator sizes without blocking the airflow path. Cooler Master has also designed it to support future accessories and third-party devices sharing the same mounting pattern — positioning it as a longer-term platform rather than a single-generation feature.
Cable management runs through a centralized routing chamber concealed by a sliding cover that visually blends into the motherboard area. The cover itself is shaped to guide airflow rather than obstruct it, and includes shark-gill-inspired vents specifically positioned to assist memory cooling — a small detail, but one that shows the airflow-first design philosophy extends even to the cable management hardware.
Dual-Mode GPU Holder and workstation support
The Dual-Mode GPU Holder does double duty: for a single graphics card, it clamps down to improve stability during transport — genuinely useful for anyone who moves a built system between locations. For builders running two cards, it supports GPUs up to 3.6 slots (72mm) thick each.
A thermally prioritized airflow divider inside the case routes air from the lower intake fan directly toward the GPU specifically — treated as the most thermally demanding component in a typical build — while still maintaining adequate airflow for storage drives and nearby PCIe devices.
Fan hub and I/O panel
The built-in fan hub provides 6 PWM and 6 ARGB ports with a combined 54W of power capacity, enough to run a fully populated fan and lighting setup without an additional splitter for most builds.
Front I/O includes one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, a combo 3.5mm headset/mic jack, a power LED, and a reset switch.
Radiator and additional fan support
Beyond the pre-installed fans, the top panel supports 3 x 120/140mm fans or 2 x 160/180mm fans, plus conditional radiator support up to 360mm (120 or 180mm width variants). The front panel, using the default configuration, supports the 2 x 220mm intake fans as shipped — but swapping to the MasterRail system opens up 3 x 120/140mm or 2 x 160/180mm fan configurations instead, along with the same conditional radiator support as the top panel. The rear panel supports the single pre-installed 180mm fan.
This layered approach — solid default configuration, with MasterRail unlocking alternate layouts — gives builders real flexibility to move between an air-cooling-first setup and a more liquid-cooling-focused build without being boxed into one configuration permanently.
Warranty and pricing
The case itself carries a 2-year warranty, while both included fans are separately warrantied for 5 years — a meaningful distinction, since fans are typically the first component to fail in any case over time.
